The Texas Tech Student Government Association is behind the push.
They'll hold two educational meetings next week to share the benefits of a smoke free campus and to get feedback from students and faculty on a potential ban.?
Most students on campus told KAMC News they're for no more smoking at their school
"I think it's a great thing," said Maggie Mcclew, a Tech student.? "I would appreciate not having smoke blown in my face or anything walking to class.? Everyone knows its bad for you so I think it would be really awesome."
Student Alex Sanders agrees, "Certain areas walking through class it gets in and just kind of stinks, so I'd actually really appreciate it."?
???
Texas Tech's Director of Communications, Chris Cook, said he doesn't expect a ban anytime soon.? He said SGA holding a meeting on a potential ban is only the first step in a long process.? If SGA receives feedback from students and faculty who want the ban, they'll submit a proposal to the president.? That proposal would then have to be approved by the Board of Regents.? Cook said a ban is possible, but you'll continue to see students with cigarettes, for now.?
